I Need My Own Space

The setup of the traditional family house is geared towards the family as a whole. The women of the house usually are in complete control of the decorating. In most cases, the men don't really put up much of a fight in this regard either. Women put their decorative things all over the house. They have artwork, family pictures, potpourri, decorative bowls and just about everything else all over the majority of the house. They have approximately 43 decorative pillows that have to be placed on the bed every morning and taken off every night. Most of the house is marked by the presence of a woman and for the most part, the husband is alright with it.

In the same regard, the den or family room is usually the kids area. If not the den, then they usually have a playroom of some sort. Their 2000 toys scatter across the room and the TV usually has Spongebob or some other children's show permanently fixed on it. The children have access to this room at all times and any adults that want to watch anything in that room are usually out of luck.

With so much of the house already controlled, the man of the house is many times left without a place to call his own. However, many men are turning to the one place that can offer some solace to the chaos...their gameroom. A man needs a space to call his own and a gameroom is one of the best places in the house to do so. A gameroom gives the man a place to sit back and relax. He can decorate it with his favorite team logo (and we all know that he has a favorite team). He can have his friends over and play some billiards. He can crank up the music or watch the big game with his friends. You'd be surprised what kind of an effect a pool stick in hand and a football game on the TV can have on a man. It's almost like a therapeutic experience.

This is also a great way for the man of the house to get some quality time with friends. They'll obviously want to come over and play some billiards now that there friend has control of the game room. It's really a great place for male bonding to take place. Just pick your pool stick and let the hours of fun begin.

The game room should be a man's domain. The women get creative control of the other 90% of the house. The kids get the playroom or the den and the man is often left to shuffle around without a place to call his own. For many men, this can be frustrating and annoying if left alone. If you're a man, why not reward yourself with a game room decked out in your favorite team logos? If you're a woman, doesn't your husband deserve something to call his own? Look into setting up a game room like this in your household.
